Top tips: Mission Survive activities
Mission Survive activities put your class's creativity to the test through fun, imaginative, hands on challenges. They can help reinforce learning, by creating first hand experiences of building their ideas and seeing how well they work.
If your class could invent a device to protect an egg, what would it look like?
How to run a Mission Survive activity
1. Pose the question!
- Can the class determine what might work without building it?
- Ask pupils to think about what they already know that can help them on their mission
2. Explore with the class how would they use this information to –
- Help them survive?
- Shape their design?
3. What do pupils think would be a good survival test?
- Talk through how you might carry out different tests and what might happen.
- Hear how their ideas unfold and develop as pupils respond to each other
4. After your class has picked a test, give your class a fixed timeframe of 5-10 minutes to build their creations.
5. Finally, get ready to put them to the test!
- Were there any surprises?
- Which were the best?
- Could their structures survive another challenge?
