Explorify evaluation report 2024
Read a summary of the 2024 Explorify evaluation.
Explorify are pleased to announce the publication of a major evaluation of Explorify conducted by the independent research company, CFE, looking at the reach and impact of Explorify on educators and children. This 2024 evaluation report follows on from the 2023 report and focuses on how teachers use Explorify in their settings and the positive impacts this has had on their teaching practice and children’s learning.
The report is accompanied by an infographic giving the headline numbers and 2 case studies showing how Explorify is used to: build teachers’ confidence in teaching science, engage pupils in class discussions to improve their oracy skills, and support teaching in the Welsh language.
In the first part of 2024 hundreds of teachers completed surveys, and interviews were conducted. From this, a wealth of qualitative and quantitative data was gathered, and we're excited to share this with our users. We also wanted to say a big thank you to all those that took the time to complete the survey and support us in our mission to provide schools with trusted, useful, and easy to use activities.
We were pleased that CFE Research found Explorify to be "extensively used both inside and outside of science lessons" by educators who are "passionate about the resources" and "actively promote them within their networks".
96% of teachers have recommended Explorify to other teachers
Impact on Learners
The report highlights many areas where Explorify positively impacts learners such as greater enjoyment of science lessons, improved oracy skills and greater positive impact on learners with additional needs.
96% of educators reported Explorify had a positive impact on their pupils
One science leader said:
“[Science] is not about always knowing the answers, it’s about asking questions and changing your mind and I love the fact that [Explorify activities] are low stakes. Children can change their minds as they go through an activity.”
Impact on educators
The report found that Explorify gave educators more enjoyment and greater confidence in teaching science as well as alleviating workload by reducing time spent on planning. Those teachers that used the Teacher support area of the website found it helped them to plan more effective science lessons and was a valuable form of CPD.
87% of educators reported Explorify had a positive impact on their teaching
An Early Careers Teacher commented:
“Science is the subject that I have feared the most…I’m not very confident in the subject, it’s not something that I’d naturally gravitate towards. So, I think having Explorify as a base and being able to make sure you are using the correct vocabulary, you are doing the right things and seeing that it is having an impact, is valuable.”
