The Tree Council has been inspiring communities to plant trees in National Tree Week.

Bring the wonder of trees into your classroom, by rooting around to find the perfect activity to start your next lesson.

For ages 5-7

Hedgerow heroes 

Put your class' observation skills to the test with these three berries and the animals which feed on them. 

Do you need big seeds to grow big plants? 

A Big Question will be sure to get your pupils thinking like scientists! 

Green Texture 

This Zoom In Zoom Out will get your little scientists looking at a seasonal favourite in an entirely new way.

 

Ages 7-9

Nifty naturals 

This Mystery Bag activity, a tried-and-tested favourite with teachers, will get your class curious and discussing the importance of rainforests: all you need is a selection of everyday objects.

Bonkers conkers 

A slo-mo video of a horse chestnut dropping its seeds is sure to spark a conversation! Great for describing observations and applying ideas in unfamiliar contexts.

What if we did not plant trees

Forests cover 31 percent of the world's surface and are essential to our lives. This Big Question will see your pupils discussing and developing new understandings of trees' significance.  

 

Ages 9-11

Terrific tree dwellers

This Odd One Out with three animals who live in trees is a colourful way to spark a conversation about habitats and the importance of trees to living creatures.
