Explorify activities can help children practise and improve key skills they will need for science enquiry. Our Big Questions, Problem Solvers and Mission Survive activities provide a range of opportunities to develop key skills including:

  • planning enquiries, including controlling variables
  • taking measurements
  • recording data
  • using test results to make predictions
  • reporting and presenting findings
  • identifying evidence to support or refute ideas.

Exploring different types of enquiry

All Explorify activities require children to recall information, notice detail and make sense of what they see by asking questions, thinking together and making connections. Some activities require children to apply their knowledge and thinking to unfamiliar contexts or devise solutions to problems.

We’ve mapped some Explorify activities for different year groups against most curriculum science topics to show how Explorify supports types of scientific enquiry, whether it’s looking at how something changes over time, noticing patterns in behaviour or data, sorting and classifying into groups, undertaking tests or using secondary sources to follow up questions and ideas for enquiry. Click on the links below to find an enquiry map relevant to your age group.
